Maventy Malnourishment Software
I am currently the User Interface Lead of an international team volunteering on a project for Maventy Health International. We are led by Dr. Martin Malachovsky, an inspiring doctor who set up a health clinic in Madagascar. Madagascar has severe child malnutrition issues, and the country's health record system is too basic to support the scale of the problem.

Children are measured without consistent return visits, records are duplicated, and the system is not portable or rapid. The goal of our software is to track and treat malnourished children across Madagascar using a web and mobile application. The software needs to be simple enough for inexpert users to understand with minimal training. It also needs to be bilingual to allow for English-speaking volunteers and French-speaking locals to collaborate.

Users can search or add children from the home screen.

Both Search and Add Child are spread across three basic tabs — Who, When, and Where. This uses the accustomed metaphor of tabs, and breaks down the child information into categorized chunks for understandability.

Search Results return children in the database.

Child Information gives more detail, including a timeline of notes, measurements, and calls to action.

There is also a Detailed Charts section to see trending visualizations of the child's progress along different measurements.

Users can add measurements and notes.

The software immediately runs the measurements through growth algorithms and returns feedback and a call to action.

An iPhone prototype has been deployed and is already storing 500 children. We are distributing nourishment packets and continuing to iterate on the system.
